The payment wasn't received in time, so they just ballooned the late fee's. Iended up just being able to pay off the penelties. I came back from Iraq to a divorce, had to find a place of my own. Wisconsin and their 50/50 marital law, she got EVERYTHING. Money was scarce, so i went with the joke that we are not happy with. They wouldn't accept my payment until the mess was cleared up. Well it is now Jan 07 and i still haven't been able to make a payment. My credit score WAS 714, and now thanks to the LAZY SOB's there, it is a booming 480. Talk about a blast to my self-respect... At the present time, i am graced with working with their "so-called" work-out section. Wow what a nightmare. I get a letter in the mail today and i was instructed that on a certain date in march, my home is going up for auction at the sherriff's department. Thanks for the courtesy call. Nothing like leading you to believe one thing then behind my back selling me out. Also, i did the 80/20 split (20% is a equity credit card) but the total sale value is just the 1st mortgage. Sticking me with the credit card that i didn't even know about till 4 months age. Well IF it sells....They can kiss that 20% good-bye too, cause they have already destroyed my credit, what else can they do??? I so do not like Countryworthless!!!!! I dealt with a wonderful Countrywide Account Executive in Milwaukee, WI. He was courtious, polite, and very professional. He came to my home, discussed my situation in detail, and gave me several options to improving my current mortgage situation. Although I spent over $10,000 on the refinance procedure, I saved over $100.00 a month. I also reduced the interest rate and the term of my mortgage. I also recieved $5000.00 cashout for home improvements. It was the best experience of my life. I am refinancing again next month, for fun. The company doesnt pay very well, and forces you to do loans to even make a basic living. Which puts pressure on everybody to cut corners to get loans done. Some of the employees have/had criminal backgrounds, yet somehow got hired . There also is a culture of , not prejudice, but insensitivity to various groups. I can see how customers payments get lost. The company is so large and complex, with literally a dozen different computer networks interacting, it is easy for mistakes to be made. I wont go so far as to say dont get your home loan from Countrywide, but just be aware of the issues I have raised here before you do. The pricing for their loans are about the same as other companies. Our realtor recommended Countrywide so strongly that we went to them for our mortgage. If you think Countrywide is bad, try going to a realtor who works hand-in-hand with Countrywide. Countrywide gave us an interest rate upon which we based our offer. As soon as the offer was accepted, Countrywide upped the interest rate so much that we knew we could no longer afford the house, but we had signed an offer to purchase that allowed that rate of interest (on the advice of Countrywide, who said it didn't really mean we would ever have to pay that higher rate, it was just something to put on the offer). So, we went to a bank, and they offered us a much lower rate. The bank called the realtor to start the loan process. The realtor turned around and called Countrywide, who then called us, to offer us a much, much better rate. Okay. But then, Countrywide wouldn't move. Not even an application to start the loan process. Each time I called they tap-danced about computers and "in the system," etc. We had no application, no written estimate, nothing. Twelve days before closing I called our local bank in a panic. They were able to do the loan at that interest rate and cut Countrywide out completely. They said if we had waited a couple more days it would have been too late. We believe that Countrywide was holding out until we had no other options before they would give us a loan, and the terms of it would have been at their pleasure. THEN, we found out our realtor had not disclosed an encroachment. This alone could have been a deal-breaker, but we really wanted the house so we worked out a deal with the man who owned the property on whom we were encroaching. We also got an attorney, and asked him to take over the closing, which we had been planning to do at the realtor's office. WELLLLLL---Here it gets fun. Countrywide and our realtor had worked into the purchase all sorts of "creative financing," so that we, the buyers, would be credited with approximately $3,500 at the closing, which would have been at the realtor's office, where we wouldn't have known what the hell he was doing with the money. But our lawyer and our bank did exactly that; they credited us with the $3,500. In fact, they ran out of places to credit us, so the seller ended up writing us personal check for the balance. Our realtor was shocked when he found this out at closing. We had to stay an hour while everyone in his office and the lawyer's office looked for his money, calculators clicking, pages flying. The realtor went outside and talked to his office on his cell phone. We overhead him yell, "Well then we're screwed!" I kid you not! At another point in this comedy our lawyer asked him, "Well, where's the earnest money? I don't have it. Do you have it?" And the realtor said, "Well yes, I have it, but..." He actually said that! The way it finally turned out for us was beautiful. The seller actually paid for part of our down payment, but it didn't cost him anything because Countrywide had him raise the asking price in order to credit us, in order for them in turn to be able to get this money at closing. We paid NO FEES whatsoever, and walked away with a small check to the good. The seller paid a very low commission to the realtor (because the realtor quoted him a small commission, because he was going to get a cut of the "creative financing" done by Countrywide, at closing.) Watching this comedy of errors was truly enjoyable; however, it followed a month of anxiety and fear. I don't recommend Countrywide to anyone. And if your realtor recommends them, please be warned. From the date of application to the date that I was supposed to close there were 45 days. I was originally told that that would be more than enough time and everything seemed to be very good. I am a first time home buyer but have very good credit so I thought I would be OK. After waiting over two weeks to hear anything back from my loan officer I finally talked to him and he said that my application got lost and that I should complete another one. Needless to say I was a bit scared that it had been lost since it had so much personal information. Anyways, I completed another application and waited another week without hearing anything. You would think since I'm the customer he'd try a little harder to make me happy...but when I finally talked to him again I was told that he hadn't been able to contact my employer or bank to get the information he needed and then he kept leaving messages. My employer said that he had never had any messages or any attempts to be contacted. Finally, after the advice of a friend of mine who used a differenct loan officer I switched. I had to fill out yet another loan application but the loan officer I worked with got everything he needed within 4 days and we closed the loan on time. I have yet to this day to be contacted by the Countrywide loan officer(apparently I wasn't too important). If any of you are looking for a good, honest loan officer call Jacob at 715-233-0331.
