Message: Thank you so much for this website. Our realtor recommended Countrywide so strongly that we went to them for our mortgage. If you think Countrywide is bad, try going to a realtor who works hand-in-hand with Countrywide. Countrywide gave us an interest rate upon which we based our offer. As soon as the offer was accepted, Countrywide upped the interest rate so much that we knew we could no longer afford the house, but we had signed an offer to purchase that allowed that rate of interest (on the advice of Countrywide, who said it didn't really mean we would ever have to pay that higher rate, it was just something to put on the offer). So, we went to a bank, and they offered us a much lower rate. The bank called the realtor to start the loan process. The realtor turned around and called Countrywide, who then called us, to offer us a much, much better rate. Okay. But then, Countrywide wouldn't move. Not even an application to start the loan process. Each time I called they tap-danced about computers and "in the system," etc. We had no application, no written estimate, nothing. Twelve days before closing I called our local bank in a panic. They were able to do the loan at that interest rate and cut Countrywide out completely. They said if we had waited a couple more days it would have been too late. We believe that Countrywide was holding out until we had no other options before they would give us a loan, and the terms of it would have been at their pleasure.
THEN, we found out our realtor had not disclosed an encroachment. This alone could have been a deal-breaker, but we wanted the property so we worked out a deal with the man who owned the property on whom we were encroaching. We also got an attorney, and asked him to take over the closing, which we had been planning to do at the realtor's office. WELLLLLL---Here it gets fun. Countrywide and our realtor had worked into the purchase all sorts of "creative financing," so that we, the buyers, would be credited with approximately $3,500 at the closing, which would have been at the realtor's office, where we wouldn't have known what the hell he was doing with the money. But our lawyer and our bank did exactly that; they credited us with the $3,500. In fact, they ran out of places to credit us, so the seller ended up writing us a personal check for the balance. Our realtor was shocked when he found this out at closing. We had to stay an hour while everyone in his office and the lawyer's office looked for money, calculators clicking, pages flying. The realtor went outside and talked on his cell phone. We overhead him shout, "Well then we're screwed!" I kid you not! At another point in this comedy our lawyer asked him, "Well, where's the earnest money? I don't have it. Do you have it?" And the realtor said, distractedly, "Well yes, I have it, but…." and went back to playing with his calculator.
The way it finally turned out for us was beautiful. The seller actually ended up paying for part of our down payment, but it didn't cost him anything because Countrywide had him raise the asking price in order to credit us, in order to be able to get their thousands at closing. We paid NO FEES whatsoever, and walked away with a small check to the good. The seller paid a very low commission to the realtor (because the realtor quoted him a small commission, apparently because he, the realtor, was going to get a cut of the "creative financing" done by Countrywide at closing.) Watching this comedy of errors was truly enjoyable; however, it followed a month of anxiety and fear. I don't recommend Countrywide to anyone. And if your realtor recommends them, please be warned.

Message: I don't know about all the name calling, etc. but one thing is certain. Something bad has happened to Countrywide in Atlanta and there won't be an end until it's destroyed. Someone hired people to run this part of the company that either have no interest in the company or just simply aren't qualified to run a company. There is no profit being made and everyone is unhappy -- customers and employees. Seems like a recipe for disaster. Sit back and watch it fall. Maybe a year, maybe not that long. They'll be gone, someone new will be along or they can close down Atlanta altogether. I don't think Atlanta would be missed by the rest of Countrywide.

Long story short - Countrywide "lost" 2 of my payments (the checks were cashed by them) and required me to send 2 extra payments. They finally "found" my payments and have been doing various versions of "the check is in the mail" routine for 2 months. At this point I think I would actually prefer it if they would just be honest and say, "Hey, we have no intention of returning your money. Deal with it!"

Message: CountryWide is the most unprofessional company we've ever dealt with. We received many letters stating we have over $100,000 in equity and how simple it would be to get a loan based on this. So since we wanted to finish our basement, we started the process, back at the end of August. We were aware that it was not the perfect scenario with our credit scores and everything, so we did everything that was asked of us, cleaning up a few collection accounts on our credit report. We were told SEVERAL times, that is was a go, and would be processed ASAP. After almost 6 weeks, still nothing from CountryWide. We already had an anniversary trip planned and paid for to Mexico, so we went in the middle of October after being told by our loan officer, that everything could be finalized while we were there as long as we had internet access and access to a fax machine (which we did). Well our relaxing stress-free vacation, was not that. After several emails, phone calls trying to finalize this (to give us some spending money - since we pretty paid everything off that they asked us to prior to leaving the country)still nothing. The day before we left, we were told that we could go to the consulate and sign everything, we decided to wait until we returned to the US. There was lots of bickering back and forth about how much cash in hand we would get and what they would pay off. Well we returned, and heard aboslutely nothing back from CountryWide after several voicemails requesting they call us back so we can get this finalized. We finally got a return call from our loan officer stating it was out of his hands and on his supervisor's desk. But it was all approved. As of yesterday, after several MORE voicemails and no callbacks we looked elsewhere. As of today, we have more than 5 different offers for lower interest, more cash in hand, as well as credit cards getting paid off!!! After a nasty email to CountryWide we got a call back (go figure!) What they were willing to do was terrible - high interest- 11.5%, paying off only 1 account - $24,000.00 and no cash in hand. The offer we decided to go with (through a different company, much smaller than CountryWide)came in at 6.2%, paying off the same account $24,000.00 PLUS $19,000.00 cash. And everything can be finalized in 10 days! So basically we told CountryWide to pack sand!!

I have worked in and with many customer service companies over the last 20 years and NEVER have I ever seen such poor service. They are terrible! They string you along, lie to you, and don't return your phone calls all the while your credit is getting ruined!!! We were told that our bills would be cleared up, which after almost 3 months of dealing with this unprofessional company still has not been done! DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH COUNTRYWIDE! We will also be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. CountryWide should NOT be in business.

Go elsewhere if you know what's good for you!

SINCERELY,
2 VERY unsatisfied customers!!!

I closed on my loan today with countrywide. They promised 6% fixed & they delivered on the day stated. I have nothing but praise for them, as I do not have perfect credit due to a divorce several years ago. They gave me a good & fair deal when many others had refused & tried to screw me over. I'm glad I went with them.

Message: I am extremly upset and scared that I may lose my home. I have been dealing with Countrywide for two years now and they are trying to foreclose on me. My payments started out at 950.. a month and then incresed to 1300.00!! I had trouble keeping up with the increase and fell behind, they put me in a work out program which meant that I had to pay 1700.00 a month to keep my home for another year! I was late a couple of days with two of my payments, they sent my payments back to Western Union without informing me!! Every time I tried to send them money they would send it back to Western Union. I was then informed that IT WAS IN FORECLOSURE AND ALREADY SOLD!!! I sent out as many letters and made many phone calls to see if there was any re-course that I could take. In October I was contacted by the VP of the REO division and he told me that it was being "pushed back through foreclosure" So basically taken out of foreclosure because they forclosed too soon on me. I was given a name and a number to contact to further help me and see where to go from this point. The woman who I called next took several days to get back to me and informed me that there was nothing that she could do for me and to contact the Work out department again, which I did......no response! I have not received any phone calls. I have left several messages with the work out department and the REO division since October!!! I finally spoke to someone that said she would send out an e-mail and someone would be contacting me....guess what!!?? I have received no contact!!!! Last night I came home from work and I found a NOTICE TO SURRENDER POSSESION OF PROPERTY from an attorneys office, (which I received back in September). This was supposed to be reversed and taken out of foreclosure!! Without any help or any notification, 4 months later I get this stapled to my door again, saying that I have to move out in 7 days!! What should I do?? I know that I need to contact an attorney. Does anyone have any suggestions?? I am not going to move out of my home!! I am a single mother of two girls and have worked hard to support them and myself and keep up on my payments!!! SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Mary
